The Origin of the Name "Aruna"

The name and logo of Aruna is taken from a scene in the gallery surrounding Angkor Wat, specifically the North Gallery, south wing. The scene is “The Battle between the Devas and the Asuras”. This is another illustration of the great cosmogonic battle between Good, associated with harmony, against Evil, associated with disorder. Twenty great deities, or devas, stand out from the melee owing to their heroic size. They are confronted with as many evil asuras.
The sixteenth deva is Surya, against a background representing the solar disc. Aruna drives his chariot, ‘Aruna’ meaning ‘Dawn’, a figure half-human and half-bird. Aruna represents the dawn of a new era for Cambodia, one where advanced technology enables harmony to be made from disorder.
