Aruna was a sub-contractor to the Joint Venture between Simmons Aerofilms/Blom ASA for the acquisition and processing of aerial photography for the Land Management and Administration Project (LMAP). The project acquired aerial photography including 1:10,000 and 1:20,000 scale colour and 1:40,000 scale pan-chromatic over large parts of Cambodia for use in cadastral mapping and land use mapping and processed the imagery into orthophotographs and Digital Terrain Models (DTM). Aruna was responsible for local project liaison and management, ground control measurements, operation of a GPS base station and assistance in orthophoto and DTM creation. The overall contract value for the project was $813,000.

The Ortho-photo Production Project of Prey Nup District required the creation of a seamless, colour balanced mosaic of a large area near the Southern Coast of Cambodia. Ground control points were collected using differential GPS equipment throughout the project area. The resultant image will be a useful base for land use planning in the area.

Aruna Technology Ltd. was contracted by GTZ for rapid collection of Ground Control to allow quick ortho-rectification of large blocks of aerial photography in two provinces in Cambodia. Aruna Technology Ltd. developed the methodology for collection, prepared and tested the equipment, developed the network of data and field cards, and implemented the field survey and prepared the data and reports.

Aruna Technology Ltd. offers production of aerial ortho-photographs for development work utilizing its software and expertise. The clients select a project area and designate the scale and resolution for their requirements. Aruna Technology Ltd. produces geographically- and geometrically-corrected spatial databases using a low-cost and reasonable accuracy approach that is sufficient for their needs. The output is provided as hard-copy plots, digital data or both. Aruna Technology Ltd. works closely with the Geography Department of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction in all of their ortho-photo work in order that the Ministry staff are trained and the technology is transferred.

Aruna Technology Ltd. was contracted to run a pilot project to demonstrate the utility of using existing aerial photography and low-cost software and Virtual Base Station Differential GPS systems for preparing accurate and cheap orthophoto maps and Digital Terrain Models (DTM) for an irrigation system in Kampong Speu Province. The project demonstrated that orthophotos could be generated cost-effectively and quickly using the technology and that is was appropriate to the capacity of the Cambodian staff to implement. However, the accuracy of the DTMs prepared was not sufficient for the purposes of irrigation design in flat lowlands.
